COLUMBIA — Short-term rental owners in Columbia are expected to be in compliance with new regulations as of Monday.
As of June 2024, short-term rental owners are required to apply for zoning authorization and a rental certificate of compliance in accordance with a city ordinance approved in February 2024 . Owners must also pay taxes for nightly accommodations associated with hotels and bed and breakfasts.
A short-term rental is "a residential dwelling unit or room within a residential dwelling unit rented by a transient guest," according to a city ordinance .
Short-term rentals refer to many properties listed on sites such as Airbnb and Vrbo.
