Columbia's drinking water meets or exceeds all quality standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to the city's 2024 water quality report.

Columbia's water supply complies with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The EPA regulates more than 90 different contaminants in drinking water. Columbia's water had no violations.

In June 2023, the city was in compliance with lead and copper water sampling but completed the tests after receiving a violation from the DNR for not testing.

The city tests samples from more than 40 locations, including groundwater wells.

The city's Utilities Department monitors and evaluates the water quality more frequently than is required by law.
