Williamsburg-James City County Schools has begun redistricting talks in anticipation of two pre-kindergarten centers that are scheduled to open in 2027.

The school board met with consulting firm MGT Impact Solutions on Tuesday for early discussions on the process, which could mean redistricting the school division’s nine elementary schools.

“This is the first of a number of different conversations the board will need to be engaged with and involved with,” Superintendent Daniel Keever said.

The consulting firm began gathering preliminary data this spring, according to Lance Richards, director of MGT. After a process that will include getting feedback from the community, the goal is to present the school board with recommendations by October 2026. Community forums would likely take place
