MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — People gathered in downtown Mobile Friday morning with one goal, to stop gun violence in Mobile.

The NAACP, community leaders, and locals gathered to “orange out” Government Plaza in the city’s latest effort to take a stand.

“This event is critical, you know, in terms of bringing the awareness to gun violence, but it's just an event," District 2 City Council Candidate Samantha Ingram said. "It is time for us now to move forward with the leadership that will galvanize the community.”

The rally follows five shootings all within a week in Mobile County, with a sixth shooting happening a little more than a mile away during Friday’s rally.

Mobile NAACP President Robert Clopton is not surprised by this latest shooting, but he also has not lost hope in the community.
