Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is cutting back on some of its virtual care services, a decision that will close a Tacoma center and lay off more than 100 employees.
The Western Washington hospital system Thursday notified about 116 staffers of the planned July 28 closure, according to a state Employment Security Department filing. Chad Melton, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health’s interim president, on Friday confirmed the closure of the hospital system’s virtual health services office based at the Franciscan Education and Support Center, a place where employees have trained and some virtual care providers have been based.
About 200 staffers overall would be affected in some way, with some transferring to other parts of the hospital system, Melton said in a statement.
