KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a 30-day trial period, Hawaii County Mayor Kimo Alameda says Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona will revert back to its two-way traffic pattern.
The pilot project tested a one-way traffic pattern between Kailua Pier and Hualalai Road to create 46 new parking stalls.
The change was originally supposed to last for 90 days, but Alameda said a recent poll, with more than 2,700 responses, made it clear that drivers preferred the original two-way traffic flow.
He said Hawaii County is looking into new parking lease opportunities and partnerships with hotels, as well as reduced private parking fees.
