COLUMBIA — A 100-year-old Navy veteran was honored in Columbia Friday on the 81st anniversary of D-Day.
Families, veterans and active-duty military made up much of the crowd at the Boone County Courthouse to honor and remember local veterans.
Robert Lawrence Bartlett, who turned 100 last month, served as the chief engineering officer for the Hawaiian Sea Frontier Patrol Force in World War II.
"It's very heartwarming that after so many years, the memory of those sacrifices of World War II still live on," Bartlett said. "I lost a number of good friends during World War II. I'm glad I'm still here to represent them."
