HAMPTON — Maury baseball coach Robbie Butler has taken teams to the region final before, but never won it.

That is until Friday, when the Commodores beat Kecoughtan 6-0 to win the Class 5 Region B title at War Memorial Stadium. Both teams advance to next week’s Class 5 state tournament. The Commodores will host Cox, while the Warriors will travel to Ocean Lakes.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and this is my first one,” Butler said. “I’ve been here three times. So it feels really good. It feels great to get one. We came into this tournament scuffling a little bit offensively, but you know, we found a way to get some big hits.”
