GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

June 6 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day and people are wearing orange to remember survivors and advocate for change.

One Grand Rapids woman is a survivor of two different mass shootings, and said it affects her life 18 years later.

KC Laskey was a resident advisor at Virginia Tech in April of 2007. She said her dorm faced the drill field.

“Unfortunately, the view out my window was of the building where the second shooting was taking place,” she said. “And so I woke up to fellow classmates jumping out of the classroom windows.”

She said the rest of the day was "chaos" as people were trying to get in contact with loved ones and make sure they were safe.
