Five people were injured in the multi-vehicle crash that closed Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel for nearly eight hours earlier this week, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. Wednesday when a semitrailer traveling westbound lost its brakes and rear-ended another semitrailer, sending both vehicles off the left side of the interstate. The second truck rolled before coming to rest on the median.
The first truck also hit an eastbound Toyota RAV-4 and a Toyota Tacoma during the crash. Four people were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, and one person, the driver of the second truck, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.
