NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut man has been sentenced for stabbing a dog to death in New Haven County.

Arnaldo Silva, 53, of North Branford , committed the crime in November 2023, according to a report from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Silva was sentenced in New Haven Superior Court on Friday to five years in prison. His sentence will be suspended after 17 months served and followed by three years of probation.

Prosecutors say that on Nov. 13, 2023, police were searching Silva’s home in the Northford section of North Branford when they found a bloody kitchen knife and a bulldog belonging to Silva’s daughter dead in a dog kennel inside the home.

A necropsy determined that the two-year-old dog was killed after suffering multiple stab wounds.
