OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed three new bills to expand mental health support, protect veterans from fraud, and streamline long-term care access for Florida’s nearly 1.5 million veterans.

Speaking at a ceremony in Port Charlotte, DeSantis emphasized the importance of honoring veterans not just in words, but through policy.

“I think people have recognized that these veterans have earned this,” said DeSantis. “So I am really glad that the legislature is doing this. We want to make sure that veterans are not exploited.”

The legislation includes:

House Bill 797 , which removes bureaucratic obstacles to long-term care by allowing nursing facilities to designate specific beds for veterans and their spouses, pending approval by the Florida Department of Veterans’
