Two more communities in northern Alberta were forced to evacuate this week as wildfires continue to blaze in the province.

As of Friday several communities remain under evacuation orders or alerts, while residents of Swan Hills were able to return home on Thursday. Experts using artificial intelligence (AI) to track the severity of wildfires in communities say the situation in Canada has gotten progressively worse.

Gioachino Roberti, a physical climate risk scientist and head of product at AISIX a wildfire risk data and analytics company, said his team has been using AI as a form of mathematic and scientific modelling to make sense of large amounts of data from the past 30 years to determine communities most at risk during the wildfire season.
