Do drivers really have to share the road with small, electric vehicles like e-bikes? You’re darn scootin’ they do.
Some look like a child’s toy. Others like a mountain bike with a thicker frame. Many go 20 to 28 mph. And yes, in most cases, they are legal everywhere except for highways and sidewalks.
These small, usually electric-powered vehicles don’t offer much protection for riders, but from Nashua to Manchester and beyond, they do offer low-cost, convenient transportation for workers, students and budget-conscious side-road commuters.
They can ride right down Main Street like a car or motorcycle, and they have the same rights and responsibilities. Yet they do not need to be registered or insured, and riders do not need a license.
