OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Changes are coming to how Omaha Public Schools students receive meals at school.
Three years ago, OPS was eligible district wide for Community Eligibility Provision Program, or CEP. The CEP provides meals to students for free.
This spring, OPS had to requalify for CEP status.
“Unfortunately, not all of our schools across the district qualified,” said Chief Operations Officer Charles Wakefield of OPS. “We had about 70-75 that did, and we had 21 that did not meet their standards.”
Participating districts are required to reapply for CEP every three years, for schools its every year.
Wakefield tells First Alert 6, OPS applied for district wide CEP status first. When they couldn’t qualify district wide, they went school by school to qualify as many as possible.
