MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Northeastern Colorado until 6:30 p.m.

At around 5:38 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Grand Junction, moving southeast at 40 mph. Around 70 mph gusts of wind and ping pong ball-sized golf balls are to be expected.

Individuals and animals are recommended to remain inside for safety. Hail damage to houses and cars should be expected.

The locations affected are: • Grand Junction • Fruita • Palisade • Fruitvale • Clifton • Orchard Mesa • Whitewater • Redlands
