Wildfire smoke drifting from Canada’s north is expected to persist over Niagara throughout the weekend, says Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The federal weather agency issued a special air quality statement Friday, expecting smoke levels to fluctuate, but endure.
“This smoke is a bit stubborn and has a higher concentration than some of our models are picking up,” said Environment Canada scientist Christy Climenhaga.
“It could be a little touch and go through the weekend, but what we are seeing is a shift in the Niagara region to more of those northerly winds that’ll help clear things out a little bit.”
Climenhaga said modelling suggests relief would come Friday evening but be short lived.
“It does look like we’ll see that wind pattern a little more prevalent bringing that smoke
