MERIDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - A Meriden high school senior has been detained by ICE.
In a letter to the district, Superintendent Mark Benigni said that a senior in the school district was detained at an immigration hearing in Hartford.
ICE has not contacted the district or any Meriden public school.
Benigni says that while he cannot share any details about the student, students who meet all of the Meriden Public Schools graduation requirements will receive a diploma from the Meriden Board of Education.
“We respect the family’s privacy as they deal with this challenging situation,” Benigni said.
Meriden Mayor Kevin Scarpati says he and other city officials have been in contact with the family.
