Three days after Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman said he is recovering from a strained right quad at “warp speed,” manager Alex Cora offered another positive update on the player’s recovery Friday.

Ahead of Boston’s first game of three against the Yankees in New York this weekend, the skipper told reporters Bregman has begun his running progression. The 31-year-old suffered the quad injury after rounding first base on May 23.

“Just going through a progression compared to when he got hurt before with Houston. He feels a lot better,” Cora said, via MassLive’s Christopher Smith.

Bregman experienced the same ailment in 2021 with the Astros. He missed more than two months as he rehabbed four years ago.

After suffering his latest quad strain, Bregman called the injuries “similar.”
