BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — The mayor of Blythewood is urging state officials to consider alternatives to keep DMV services in the area following news that the town's branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles will close next month.

The South Carolina DMV announced earlier this week that the Blythewood branch will shut down on July 3. The site is expected to become a charter school.

In response, Mayor Sloan Griffin is calling for a meeting with DMV leadership to explore options for maintaining services locally. He took to social media late Thursday afternoon to urge the town council and state lawmakers to support a resolution that would fund the development of a permanent DMV location within Blythewood.
