OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - It was a historic day for the state's first television station. On KFOR-TV's 76th anniversary, we unveiled a new historical landmark right outside our front door.

"Channel 4 became known for innovation," the historical marker reads.

The historical marker stands tall to welcome all who enter KFOR-TV. It's a legacy 76 years in the making.

In 1949, News 4 hit the airwaves as Oklahoma's first television station.

Now, it's hitting the database of Historical Markers across the U.S.

"It's this place where memory and history interact," said Dr. Matthew Pearce, with the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Dr. Pearce worked with News 4 News Director, Natalie Hughes, who dug through archives and records to write a cited research paper.
