ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A giant reptile is usually not something neighbors grow attached to. However, over the years, Peachtree City residents found themselves in love with an alligator .

The community named the 6-foot alligator “Flat Creek Floyd” because it returned to Flat Creek year after year. People would go to the area to find it and take pictures from a distance.

But on Friday, the Peachtree City Police Department announced Floyd was hit by a car around 1:30 a.m. while trying to cross Highway 74.
