HAMMOND — Isaiah Edwards' name has been listed numerous times in court documents, spoken in hearings by attorneys and written in news articles since his death in 2016. His mother, Marycruz Calo, has said it in interviews, typed it in social media posts and spoken it to family, friends, coworkers and strangers.

Calo said she talks about her son everyday. It's part of her quest to keep his memory alive and ensure he's not forgotten as the years go by since he was found shot to death and burned June 30, 2016, in a in a grassy area near 27th Avenue and Maryland Street in Gary.

"If you didn't know my son," Calo said, "you'll know him through me."
