LIMESTONE, Maine — The Loring Job Corps Center in Limestone is closing its doors as part of a nationwide phased shutdown of hundreds of Job Corps centers across the country. The decision by the U.S. Department of Labor follows a suspension of new student enrollments and is being attributed to financial strains and ongoing behavioral issues across the program.
The closure has sent shockwaves through the local community, displacing students and leaving dedicated staff members frustrated and heartbroken.
"I'm not going to be able to teach students, I'm never going to see that transformation in students ever again, it's really sad, I can't imagine my life without being an instructor," Loring Job Corps Center Instructor Rob Swan said.
