BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - June 6, 2025 marked the 81st anniversary of D-Day, one of the largest military operations in U.S. history.

On June 6, 1944, more than 160, 000 allied troops stormed the beaches in Normandy, France.

It’s a day retired combat veteran Robert Franks said had to be terrifying.

“Of course the guys storming the beach. They see theses bullets coming at them and they still have to go forward and press forward because there’s nowhere to go,” said Franks. You either go forward or you unfortunately get killed.”

Memories forever burned in the mind of a veteran who spoke to the Central Texas VA and was on the beach that day.
