Pine Bluff, Ark. (KATV) — The city of Pine Bluff turned a vibrant shade of orange today in celebration of the second annual Gun Violence Awareness Day. The event marked a significant milestone for the community: 500 days without a juvenile homicide.
"We're here for the GVI," said Circuit Court Judge Alex Guynn.
"Basically, we're celebrating the non-violence movement that's going on in Pine Bluff, where our crime is down 45% and here, especially for the juveniles, we have now the juvenile homicide in over 500 days."
The significance of this achievement was not lost on the community.
"It means everything, having mothers and fathers not have to attend funerals, but they can attend graduations," said Guynn.
"It means extremely, extremely proud of the family showing progress with Pine Blu
