Tulane University will receive $20 million from the City of New Orleans to put toward the redevelopment of the former Charity Hospital building under a settlement that ends a long-running legal battle over the Edward Wisner Trust, officials announced Friday evening.

The $20 million allocation will support the university’s plans to convert the long-vacant, Depression-era building into a hub for scientific research and will clear the way for Tulane to ask the state to contribute to the project, which officials have said is critical to the future of the $650 million renovation.
