SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WNCN) -- As the weather begins to warm up in June, alligators are becoming even more active at the North Carolina coast.

In Brunswick County, a far southeastern county that borders South Carolina, one town had another week with record numbers of discovered and relocated alligators.

In mid-May, Southport officials had nine calls in a week for alligators needing relocation in the town, which is near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, south of Wilmington.

Now, to end the first week of June, officials in Southport said they set a new record for gators needing relocation. While the Southport Police Department did not say exactly how many alligators were involved, at least 10 alligators would exceed the previous record.
