SEATTLE — Students at Garfield High School walked out of class Thursday to join community members in a protest against gun violence, marking one year since 17-year-old Amarr Murphy-Paine was shot and killed in the school’s parking lot .
No arrests have been made in the case, fueling growing concerns about campus safety and demands for justice.
The demonstration brought together students, parents, and community members calling for a safer campus and solutions to prevent future violence. Murphy-Paine's mother, Sherrica McCall, attended the rally, surrounded by students who knew her son.
“I couldn’t make it alone on this day,” McCall said. “It is still unbelievable to me that I will never hear ‘hi mom’ again.”
