The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is intensifying efforts to catch drivers speeding, a behavior they identify as one of the most dangerous on the state's roadways.
This weekend, CHP will initiate a statewide maximum enforcement period, deploying additional officers from 6 a.m. Saturday until 5:59 a.m. Sunday. The campaign targets drivers who exceed speed limits, fail to pay attention, and endanger others.
Fort Tejon CHP Officer D.C. Williams emphasized the risks associated with speeding, stating, "The faster you’re going, the more likely you are to end up in a fatal crash." Last year, over 116,000 crashes were attributed to speed, resulting in approximately 500 fatalities and more than 48,000 injuries, according to CHP’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System.
