FRANKLIN, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was convicted Thursday of child solicitation by a Johnson County jury.
According to a release from the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office, 26-year-old Oluwaseyanu Akinola Afolabi was found guilty of felony child solicitation and misdemeanor marijuana possession on June 5.
Afolabi was arrested in April 2023 after police say he was involved in a series of text messages in which he tried to have sex with a girl he believed was 15 years old. Police say he traveled from the Castleton area to Johnson County to meet the girl, but was met by officers instead.
“I am proud of our law enforcement officers who work so hard to catch these predators and keep them away from kids,” Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said.
Afolabi faces up to 12 years in prison.
