RAWLINS COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A loose trailer tire slammed into two cyclists Friday afternoon along U.S. Highway 36, leaving both with serious injuries.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Friday as a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling on U.S. 36, towing a trailer. The trailer lost a front tire, which broke free and struck two 75-year-old cyclists riding on the shoulder.

Both cyclists, from Marion, were taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old man from Granby, Montana, was not injured. Troopers noted the trailer had no tag. The crash is still under investigation.
