PORTLAND, Maine — The increased risk of emergency weather events this hurricane season creates further uncertainties about whether communities impacted by storms will have access to federal reimbursement assistance from FEMA.
Hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30.
According to National Weather Service (NWS) warning coordination meteorologist Donnie Dumont, the probability for storms during this year's hurricane season is well above average.
NOAA predicts there could be 13 to 19 storms strong enough to be named. Six to 10 of those could be full-on hurricanes.
Dumont warned that the increased likelihood of storms also enhances the chances of a hurricane making landfall in Northern New England.
