HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A high surf advisory has been issued for the south-facing shores of all islands this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Waves of 7 to 10 feet are expected.
The long-period energy from the south-southwest is forecast to rise overnight into Saturday before slowly declining Sunday. This swell already came in at higher-than forecast levels in Samoa.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers, especially visitors who may not be familiar with local ocean conditions, should use caution and follow advance from ocean safety lifeguards.
