CLEVELAND (WJW) – A Cleveland councilman tells the FOX 8 I-Team that a child had to be rescued from a city pool and rushed to a hospital Friday evening.
Councilman Richard Starr said a young boy climbed the fence at the Lonnie Burten Recreation Center and then jumped in the pool, even though it was closed.
The boy was unable to swim and his friends started yelling for help, Starr said.
He added that some “older kids” who were playing basketball heard the commotion and ran to help. They were able to get the boy out of the pool. A few minutes later, police and EMS arrived, Starr said.
“He was taken to the hospital and I am praying for him and his family,” Starr said.
The I-Team reached out to police for additional information.
