BUNA, Texas — A man was taken into custody Friday after barricading himself inside a mobile home and setting a fire during a standoff with law enforcement in Buna, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at 34523 South Highway 96 around 4 p.m. to serve an aggravated assault warrant on Charles Benjamin Franklin IV, 34, of Buna. The warrant stemmed from a June 3 incident in which Franklin allegedly poured gasoline on his girlfriend and threatened to light her on fire.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, Franklin barricaded himself inside the residence and poured gasoline on himself and throughout the mobile home, officials said. Negotiators attempted to speak with him, but his behavior was described as irrational and hostile.
