Volunteers from local cat rescue, are bringing in kittens that need love to be cuddled by seniors with dementia.
After a lifetime of talking, dementia has thrown 72-year-old Allan Slater of Comox a curveball.
He still has his memory, and understanding, but the condition has taken all but three of the Comox man’s words, “Yeah”, “three” and the “F-word”.
“Yeah….Three, three, three,” Slater, told CHEK News at his Comox dementia care home on Friday.
Kelley Romeril is the director of site operations at Providence Living at The Views, where Slater lives. According to Romeril, Slater has become a master communicator despite the loss of words, if you pay attention to his emphasized body language.
“It’s easy to communicate if your heart is open and you’re there to listen,” said Romeril.
