BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield is near the top of the list when it comes to car thefts in the country, and now police are sounding the alarm that luxury pickup trucks are getting ripped off.
An undercover BPD officer says thieves are using auto diagnostic tools to start the trucks and disconnect OnStar systems so the trucks can't be tracked.
They're even punching through the glass to open the door to bypass the push button start.
"The police department said that they're an organized ring and they're coming to Kern County to steal trucks to fill their orders," Chief Operating Officer John Pitre with the Motor City Auto Center said.
