The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox began a three-game series in the Bronx on Friday night. Sitting atop the American League East division, New York entered play with a 9.5 game lead over the fourth place Red Sox. Boston has not won the AL East since 2018, while New York is going for a third straight division title.

Jumping out to a 7-0 lead over Boston, the Yankees again showcased their high-powered offense that entered play atop the American League in runs scored this season. Shortstop Anthony Volpe was among the contributors on Friday, homering and driving in three runs.
