Texas softball battled Friday against in-state rival Texas Tech in Game 3 of the Women's College World Series and earned the program's first national title.

The Longhorns wasted no time jumping on Tech ace NiJaree Canaday. After the All-American held UT to just five runs over 14 innings over the first two games (with most of that game coming late), Texas exploded for five runs in the first inning. That was all the offense Texas star pitcher Teagan Kavan would need. Kavan held TTU scoreless for the first 4⅔ as Texas built a 10-0 lead. In Game 1 , Kavan shined as well, holding the Red Raiders to one run and three hits over seven innings
