MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood is calling for capital murder to be the default charge for murder suspects.
Sunday night’s deadly shooting at the Saenger Theatre has shaken the community.
Carl Williams III, 27, was shot and killed, and a woman was wounded after Marcus Sanders allegedly opened fire during a children’s dance recital.
With a crime taking place in a crowded theater, it’s sparking the debate on how harsh the punishment should be for murder.
"We should be able to seek the death penalty, certainly in the matter of murder, in a public place, I think that we should be able to seek the death penalty," Blackwood said.
Blackwood said it’s time to expand the definition of capital murder.
