HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 22-foot calabash bowl currently in Honolulu Hale is getting a new home.
After four months on display in town, the art installation ‘Umeke Lāʻau – Culture Medicine (2025) will relocate to Kapolei Hale this month, where it will remain on display through October 2025.
The sculpture by multimedia artist Meleanna Aluli Meyer was presented as part of the Hawaiʻi Triennial 2025. It’s designed to be a gathering space for all to experience art and culture as healing.
Now the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts is moving the sculptural calabash to make it more accessible to west side communities.
