DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Oftentimes when it comes to reporting child abuse, educators are the first line of defense. Experts say that with school out for the summer, child abuse cases are higher.
Director of the Child 1st Center, Jane Wolgast, said its important to look out for well-known signs of abuse, like injuries.
"Normally we hit elbows, knees, that type of thing. But if kids have bruises in places that they probably shouldn't be, then there's always reason to inquire and ask." Wolgast said.
Blaine Smith, Executive Director of Heartland CASA, said its also important to pay attention to as child's body language and any changes in communication style.
