HICKMAN, Neb. (KOLN) - Children’s birthdays can be one to remember for parents, but for Kristen Twidwell her son’s 8th birthday is hard to remember, because it’s the same day she suffered from cardiac arrest.

In April 2021, Kristen felt something that was off.

“I was describing it as the classic indigestion symptoms.” Kristen said.

Those symptoms ended up being more serious. She stood up while watching a movie with her family and collapsed. Her husband Dirac took initiative by taking life saving precautions.

“Both my kids were there, my daughter called, 911, I was giving CPR to my wife.” Dirac said.

From the moment his daughter made the 911 call to when Hickman Fire and Rescue hooked Kristen up to an AED took around ten minutes. That response time saved Kristen’s life. Now Kristen is
