MANCHESTER, Conn. — A Middletown man was arrested in Manchester Friday afternoon after police say he assaulted a woman with a hatchet.

The alleged incident occurred just after 1 p.m. at the Travelodge by Wyndham hotel on Hartford Turnpike, according to a release from the Manchester Police Department.

Jose Perez, 38, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon.

When police arrived at the hotel Friday afternoon, they learned that the assault had occurred in the parking lot. Perez reportedly fled the scene on foot.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
