HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiʻi Kai residents are torn over how to prevent crime and disturbances they witnessed overnight at Kamilo Iki Community Park.

Some who live near the facility on Hawaiʻi Kai Drive claim people sleep there, do drugs in the bathroom, and make loud noises late at night.

The Hawaiʻi Kai Neighborhood Board has been discussing solutions to deter what it referred to as “safety problems” and “illicit activities” at the park.

One resident proposed shutting down the facility down from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., which are the most common closure hours across the city’s more than 300 parks.
