BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WNDU) - June 6 marks a turning point in United States history.

81 years ago, 116,000 troops landed on the beaches of Normandy during World War II. They landed for the invasion of what’s commonly known today as D-Day.

On Friday, there was a D-Day rally in Benton Harbor.

Southwest Michigan Indivisible is a non-partisan group that hosts rallies to stand up against inequalities.

In honor of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, one veteran from the group suggested having a D-Day rally to stand against cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs under the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”
