A walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the ninth inning from Nick Gonzales lifted the Pirates to a 5-4 win against the Phillies on Friday evening at PNC Park. David Bednar, who threw a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth, was the winning pitcher, improving to 1-4. Jordan Romano suffered the loss, falling to 0-3.

The two teams exchanged blows for the first four innings of the game. However, after a Henry Davis homer tied the game at four in the bottom of the fourth inning, all scoring stopped until Gonzales’ heroics in the bottom of the ninth. The Pirates bullpen held the Phillies in check, while the offense chipped away, out-hitting Philadelphia 11 to seven.
