Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is facing renewed pressure from the opposition amid a wave of corruption scandals involving his close allies, sparking fresh talk of a no-confidence vote.
The unfolding crisis threatens to shake the EU’s strongest socialist government and Spain’s fourth-largest economy, following a bombshell El Confidencial report alleging that Sánchez’s Socialist party orchestrated a smear campaign against the Guardia Civil’s elite anti-corruption unit (UCO).
The unit is currently investigating Sánchez's wife , brother , and members of his cabinet, including former transport minister José Luis Ábalos, who is embroiled in a multi-million-euro corruption scandal.
In response, the Popular Party (PP), Spain's main opposition party, filed a legal complaint
