NEW RIVER, Ariz. — The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect connected to the killing of 76-year-old William "Bill" Schonemann, a beloved pastor found dead in his New River home in April. The murder has haunted the New River community for over a month.

The suspect, who authorities are not ready to name, is currently in the custody of another law enforcement agency on unrelated charges, the Sheriff's Office said Friday. Officials have not disclosed whether that agency is located in the Valley, elsewhere in Arizona, or another state.

The news brings mixed emotions for Schonemann's family and congregation at the New River Bible Chapel, where he served as pastor for more than three decades.
